Frequently Asked Questions

  • Engine oil reduces friction and wears by creating a thin layer shaped like film by sticking on all moving components of the engine; this means more power is transferred to the wheels by ensuring easy movement. Engine oil helps to clean the engine by means of detergents it contains, protects it against rust, and also helps to send a portion of the over-heating circulating around the cylinders down to crankcase.

  • As it is known, despite of various industry standards and approvals are determinant in the performance classification of engine oils, the most basic ones, API (American Petroleum Institute, ACEA (European Vehicle Manufacturers Association) and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers), are technical specifications. We decided to move the existing specifications of our new generation Lubex engine oils to API: SN and API: SN +levels by following these standards closely that are renewed in parallel with the developing motor technology. Along the same line, we have also included our products, which meet and exceed C3 and C4 service classes contained in ACEA specifications, to our renewed broad engine oil portfolio.

Besides API and ACEA standards, Lubex Engine Oils are approved by leading vehicle manufacturers also for OEM specifications, including different requirements and features, and you can see these specifications on our product packaging. We bring new generation Lubex engine oils into your use in line with the concept of “Right Oil to Every Vehicle” by following technological developments closely.

  • Engine oil is just like the blood circulating in the veins for your vehicle’s engine. Therefore, wrong engine oil choice may cause some undesirable problems such as wear, corrosion, and sediment formation. With proper Lubex Engine Oil that you will choose for your vehicle, you can prevent such problems that may occur in your engine as well as Lubex helps low fuel consumption with friction reduction feature in tight engine tolerances.

  • You should change your engine oil and oil filter within the change intervals that have been specified by the vehicle manufacturers. These intervals are determined by vehicle manufacturers and not by oil producers and indicated by mileage or duration. Engine oil manufacturers produce engine oils that comply with these change intervals and oversupply the requirements of vehicle manufacturers and this helps to get maximum performance from the engine.

  • Automobile manufacturers have specified the properties of the oil required to be used in manuals in detail. However, you can always change to another engine oil, having better properties, and get even more performance from your engine. Choosing the right engine oil fro your vehicle and you depends on the following issues:

    • Automobile Type – a high performance automobile needs higher performance oil.
    • Automobile Age – expectations from new generation engines are very high: fuel efficiency, environmental awareness, and high protection. New generation oils have been developed to keep up with expectations.
    • Your driving conditions – intense stop-and-go traffic requires higher performance oils to prevent engine wear.

“Lubexplorer” that we developed for you, has been offering the most appropriate products for you according to the brand and model of your vehicle.

  • They are produced by means of adding the necessary additive packages into base oils obtained by rerefining base product obtained by distilling crude oil. Their prices are generally cheaper and offer an average performance.

  • They are produced by means of adding the necessary additive packages into synthetic base oils obtained by various chemical processes in laboratory conditions. The cost of synthetic base oil, which is the raw material of synthetic oils, is high since they are produced by intense processing with advanced technology. However, they ensure both a better performance and long term use. Their thermal resistance is high. They fulfill their lubricating duties longer periods, and are more resistant to high pressure and strain with higher and lower temperatures.

  • We use oil development know-how depending on years of Lubex’s experience in every stage from the base oil technology of Lubex formulation to additive section and blending. Oil is developed to overcome the difficulties, therefore, regardless of how hard your driving conditions are, Lubex will help to clean and protect your engine.

  • Single-season oils are appropriate for situations where air temperatures are permanently constant, therefore, such oils are not appropriate for both summer and winter use (Ex: not just 15W-40, but only 20W).

All-Seasons Oils can be used both in summer heat and in winter cold since they have the ability to serve in variable weather conditions due to its structure. Thick oil will gel in cold weather conditions and will not be able to fully do its duties. Thin oil will flow easily in the cold, however film layer between engine and cylinder will become thinner or detach at high temperatures. Upon these disadvantages of single-season oils, all-season oils have been produced by means adding various polymers into thin-based single viscosity oil. Through these added polymers, these oils are thin enough to serve during winter cold or engine cranking and as thick as you can trust in the summer heat.

  • Compatibility of oil viscosity varies depending on the place of use. According to engine speed and technology, by using very thin oil like 0W / 30, oil should circulate easily in the engine and lubricate every point. Oils like 15W / 40, 20W / 50 are used in hot climates having a lower-speed engine technology since they have a high viscosity.

    Today, synthetic oils such as 0W / 30, 5W / 30, 10W / 40 long-life engine oils have much longer life according to mineral oils like 15W40, 20W / 50.

  • You can understand performance class from SAE, API, and ACEA values on label contained in the back of the packaging.

  • SAE classification, apart from others, classifies oil according to its viscosity at low and high temperatures and thereby it can be said that it is a little more detailed. In SAE classification, the figure consists of two digits separated by the letter W. W means winter, and shows the viscosity of the oil in low-temperature. For example; like 15W in 15W-40. This is also the base viscosity of oil, in other words, the actual viscosity before adding polymer. Since the lower figure means the thinner oil, this also shows us how fluent the oil will be at low temperatures and how easily the engine will start.

Second figure gives high temperature viscosity of oil. For example; like 40 in 15W-40. The higher figure means the more viscous oil while it is hot, in other words, thicker.

  • Classification is made with two letters. The first letter indicates whether the oil is appropriate for gasoline-powered engines (S) or diesel engines (C); while the second letter shows the performance value of the oil in the same group. Performance classification is made, being the lowest A in both groups, between A-N + for gasoline-powered engines, and C-K for diesel engines.

  • ACEA has officially substituted CCMC since 01.01.1996. This organization has been describing the quality of engine oils according to European specifications. ACEA classifications have been using the abbreviations of A1, A2, A3, and A5 for gasoline-powered vehicles. Abbreviations of B1, B2, B3, B4, and B5 are used for diesel engines. For Euro 4 standard or higher, oils named, Low SAPS or Medium SAPS, are available for vehicles running with gasoline-powered engines or diesel engines exhaust after-treatment (in other words; carbon deposit particulate filter). These oils also bear C1, C2, C3 or C4 identification codes. Abbreviations of E2, E3, E4, E5, E6, E7, and E9 apply to diesel engines in commercial vehicles and construction equipment. The additional number indicates the performance criterion.

  • Oil color may vary according to the distilled crude oil type, used base oils, and contents of additive packages.

Dirty or dark engine oil does not announce a possible problem in the engine. Dispersant and detergent additives within engine oil ensures an undamaged metal surface by removing sediments stuck on metal surfaces and restrains oil in its structure by scattering these sediments. On the contrary this is a good sign. Dirty oil is proof that the oil does its duty.

  • The main reason for oil reduction is related to engine technology. By minimising the intermetallic gaps with new technology (tighting of motor tolerances), more compact engine, and more performance are ensured. This results in oil reduction. Not chosing appropriate oil for the performance and viscosity values recommended in vehicle introduction books, using engine at high speeds continiously, and exceeding a specific millage can be shown as an example for other reasons.

  • Thickening oil in very cold weather can not easily circulate in the engine at cranking and causes hard vehicle starting. Therefore, low viscosity, full synthetic oils are recommended to be used especially in cold weathers.

  • In order to understand whether the engine oil is spoiled or not, instead of i doing manual or visual inspection, the oil should be analysed both physically and chemically under laboratory conditions.

WE PRODUCE OILS APPROPRIATE FOR TODAY’S HIGH PERFORMANCE ENGINES AND START-STOP TECHNOLOGY WITH LOW FRICTION TECHNOLOGY.
